Quebec – Canada

So after leaving the bright lights of Montreal I decided in advance I just gotta see what’s going on up in Quebec and boy was I right to do so!

The train journey was smooth, no delays (very surprising), had myself a window seat for the long trip north and used this opportunity as a good one to start getting some photos up on my social media! Why can’t it be this stress free in the UK!? I don’t miss that environment at all but I will openly admit I was already missing friends and family back home after only just a week but you push on to prove yourself and others wrong and this is something I want to see it out till the very end! Anyways back to the topic!

I decided after the unfortunate hostel experience I was going to look at using AirBnB this time round for accommodation and for a bit more comfort/peace of mind to get my mindset for what I have got myself into here exactly! I agreed to stay at a complete random persons place and obviously after frequent conversation I put doubt aside of what I was actually doing. The hosts were a very French couple who both very fortunately for me spoke exceptional English! They picked me up from Saint Foye which is just before Quebec and drove me to their place with me wondering whether they were taking me back to look after me or to cook me up for dinner! Once walking through the front door I had realised I hit the jackpot, living in style for five nights, I’m not so bad at this travelling and planning malarky after all!

So reality sunk in, I’m going to need to get myself about a weeks worth of shopping to eat in on days I was inside so after some careful guidance advice from the hosts I paid a trip to the local supermarche, which was understandably very French! Spent about $60 Canadian Dollar which in UK worked out around £30 so I’m getting double the dollar here eh, not bad!

The next day I went out into the old town of Quebec via using a local bus and was very pleasantly surprised by the surroundings and history that was based there. So many old buildings but so much beautiful attractions to take in, brilliant photo opportunities within a second of getting off the bus! In this city you need to have a nice car or you stand out of place! Reminds me of a particular high street near where I live 😉 only here is a dam site more laid back and glamourous! Check out those wheels below and ones behind in background!

Walking through the town I come across a busker playing ironically one of my favourite all time music band’s biggest hits ‘Lucky Man’ by ‘The Verve’ and I laughed to myself realising just how ironic a song can remind you of a when you were in a certain place at a particular time but more importantly just how lucky I am to be in this position in the first place! After getting a ton of photos and having a good walk around for four hours I went for a pint in a bar called Ozone and got treated like a king arriving back from battle, I’m really loving Quebec people and how welcoming they are in Canada in general! It was then time to head back and remarkably I remembered where everything was from arriving earlier, who needs maps eh!

The guy who lived at the flat played a lot of ice hockey and got me immediately interested in the Stanley Cup series between Tampa Bay and Chicago Hawks, I had a Hawks cap previously so obviously I was going to get behind them. It was good to actually watch a game on TV and get free popcorn at the bar we watched it at, England take note of this clever marketing ploy! Very fast paced, enjoyable to watch and extremely rough on each other! The Hawks lost but their revenge was always going to be ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’ in the end 🙂

I needed a change of scene and wanted to take in a bit more nature of where I had based myself so I thought what better place to go then the aquacentre! Polar bears, sea lions, and particular friendship with a smelly huge walrus between the thick glass made my day, took some great close ups! More of that on my Facebook 😉

After a beautiful stay in Quebec, some more poutine and attempting to conquer their nightlife on my own it was dawning on me to continue my journey and get out towards Ottawa for a change of scene. After some much needed advice to book up another hostel as I was missing mixing with crowds and other travellers I thought I needed a wake up call so let’s look at staying at the Ottawa Jail hostel! “This is what it’s all about” I said just like in Ray Winstones accent off those well known Bet365 adverts. Stay tuned for some creepy pics folks!

Au Revoir Quebec!
