All aboard the Greyhound for the next chapter of my trip down the West Coast, San Diego.
This didn’t take long at all and arriving into downtown was a beautiful experience I have to say. Palm trees everywhere and a real old school vintage feel to the place. Lots of cars here, all very old but kitted out to look like collectors items. These taxis are #vintage!
Time to unpack a little as its only a short stay here unfortunately. Got fair bit to cram in for Texas after. I warn you all in advance there’s not as much feedback from San D that I was hoping to report back on and to be honest this is one of my biggest regrets of my trip so far as I think San Diego had a lot more to offer then just the two nights we stayed.
I will certainly return back here at some point for a closer look at the old town and downtown strips but best I can offer on this episode is a very a smart move by my gf of getting us both a complimentary upgrade on our hotel room and the great San Diego Zoo!
So with the room scenario, I’d booked us into a plush boutique hotel, do not ask me what it was called as we were appalled with what we found in our room originally! The room itself had not been cleaned from previous visit and whatever bad thing you could think of being in there was left clear for us both to see! Whoever this person was they left on a bad note. Cigarette ash everywhere (non smoking room) toilet had not been flushed, bed covers hideous etc! Room clean please! I march on back down to Reception to complain and explain we were hoping for a wonderful stay to celebrate our honeymoon after getting married in Vegas! If only ;)! It kinda worked out in a way I guess as we were given the room I originally booked but clean as a whistle this time round! I went down to get some more towels and found the front door handle was loose, normally I wouldn’t let this affect me whatsoever but coming from the trade I used to be involved in it needed reporting and fixing! I pass somebody who happened to work there who turned out to be owner of the plush brand new Holiday Inn opposite our hotel! #Score! Basically he seemed to own both hotels somehow and is sooo unhappy with what we have had to endure that he gave our original hotel a telling off and ordered/demanded a complimentary upgrade in one of the plush jacuzzi penthouse suite rooms on the top floor of his newly built hotel instead! Think he also found out that we were on our apparent honeymoon and believe it or not he was English as well too so I guess he must of just believed what we had been pretending to make out. Time to unwind me thinks and this upgrade is something else!
We went out to a local Mexican that night and had a sensational meal! Food was lush and very fattening! We headed on back for an early night to get ourselves all set for San Diego zoo and the local mall tomorrow for a few bits and pieces for our trip to Texas.
Everybody loves the zoo and San Diego is world famous for having majority of all the animals you can think of! We were very pleasantly surprised by all we were going to get to see.
We got to see, Gorillas, Lions, a female Hippo and her young baby (sensational video!) Pandas, world famous snakes from all over the world, Tigers, Leopards, Elephants, you name it we saw it apart from sharks sadly lol, saw some polar bears instead though!
The trip there took us all day almost to see all that we wanted to see so after the zoo it was time to hit the local mall and get some food in! Was a beautiful mall and I forgot what it was like to take a trip to the shops properly since New York of course! This place was so clean and even had a Abercrombie and Hollister shop as well so couldn’t help but have a good look, never known a shopping mall that plays music while you shop and is half empty during peak hours!
It’s time for the next chapter folks which means time for the dirty South! Yee ha Texas baby! Everything’s big in Texas, well meant to be!? Let’s go and see it for ourselves shall we! First stop is Austin Texas and “Where’s that dam rattlesnake!?”
