Toronto couldn’t of come soon enough! The big buildings, the warm steam coming out the underneath of the roads, taxis everywhere, an eerie fog high up in the sky and a real urban feel to the place. This is my fav rappers home town and this place was somewhere I was always coming to on this adventure! No way was I ever missing out on this one!
Back to the HI hostel brand again and it is a mixed dorm once more! My room is empty so I use this opportunity to unpack as its late and a guy randomly walks in. Incredibly well dressed like myself but the Romanian version and had a well looked after moustache to add. Marcu was his name and we get chatting right away and like most travellers we already have a lot in common as to why we are both there doing what we are and where we are looking to go or have been already.
Marcu gave me some invaluable information about places he had been previously and a lot of them are places I intended to go to myself. We chatted for a while and then decided to head downstairs of the hostel for some live music that the hostel provided free of charge. We stayed for a beer and thought lets head out for some drinks in town, I had no idea where I was going but Marcu seemed pretty clued up and I just tagged along. We had matching denim jackets on as well and looked like we were long lost brothers, made the locals stare a little. We found a few bars which were particularly lively for a Sunday night and as soon as I heard some Drake tunes being played I knew I had arrived in Drake town! We headed off not too long after this and passed some prostitutes outside who were obviously only after our money and well groomed looks but we kindly declined the beautiful offer on our way back to the hostel, can’t be easy doing that kinda trade I imagine!
The next day we decided to do some canoeing and visit Toronto Island Park to see what was going on over there. We got the ferry and set off. I met another guy called Eugene from Phillidelphia on it who also had priceless info about some of the good places in the U.S. I had to write this all down in my diary so I could remember it all! Once we had finished our canoe trip which nearly ended up with me falling in at one point and some careful tactical advice from Eugene on how to actually canoe! It took me 45 mins to get hang of it (those American folk like to think they know everything don’t they). The day followed on by going into town to get some well earned beers with me and Eugene whooping some Aussie rules lads at pool and seeing some Copa America on TV featuring the Alexis Sanchez show! I’m a big Alexis fan! Finished 3-3 Chile vs Mexico and what a game it were!
Next day Eugene had to head off elsewhere on his travels which was a dam shame as we were getting on rather well but I still had to catch up with Marcu to see how he was getting on with his date he mentioned to me about and more importantly we were needing to try out the local food and different beers to sample! A quick trip to the ‘Steam Whistle Brewary’ was called for which was also about to close, managed to get there in time to sample the beer most importantly. Who needs the tour there anyway, it’s all bout the beer! We then went to ‘St Lawrence Market’ to taste some of the local food then on to the ‘Distillery Historic District’ which was actually started years ago by some Brits funnily enough! Was nice but a bit boring for my liking! We then decided to see if I could get tickets for CN Tower for the next night and to also see if I could get a ticket to watch Toronto City FC play in a MLS soccer game (it’s called football America!) but they had played the night before unfortunately for me. Not having much luck here am I! I need my own PA to help me plan ahead better I think. Also went past the Rogers Centre Stadium which is the home of the Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Team.
Marcu’s date didn’t go too well but he had another date the same night with somebody else, guy is a right mover and was obviously on the hunt for a bit more then just the sightseeing. Smooth Operator! Found them on online though, does that count?! Sorry Marcu I couldnt resist!
On same night was more basketball which I wasn’t gunna miss in a hurry! The last heat between the Cavs vs Gold State Warriors and Gold State just blew them away! Won fair and square! Got through some huge nachos with another American guy back from the hostel. The bar was insane! Massive screens and a proper sports bar venue!
So final day in Toronto consisted of another work out, some updating of photos on social media and finally the big Daddy, The CN Tower! Went at night time to take photos of the city at night and went right to the very top of course! Got some great shots and also walked on the clear glass floor at the top which made me a tad queezey! How people just jump up and down and sit on it though is beyond me!
Thats my “5am in Toronto all over”. Next stop is the amazing Niagara Falls, at the better border of course and my last official stop in Canada :(. Time is passing me by already so quickly.
